Why Sign-Grade Pre-Painted Aluminum

Sign-grade aluminum sheets are not the same as raw mill-finish aluminum from a metals supplier. Pre-painted sign sheets come from the factory with a baked enamel finish bonded directly to the 3003-H14 alloy — ready to accept vinyl graphics, screen printing or direct digital printing without priming or additional surface preparation. The smooth, consistent paint surface is what separates sign-grade aluminum from raw metal sheet.

Central Sign Supplies stocks 3003-H14 alloy in .040, .063 and .080 thickness — the three most common gauges for outdoor flat panel signs. .040 is the standard for most sign applications. .063 is used for applications requiring additional rigidity such as larger panel signs and post-mounted road signs. .080 is the heaviest gauge for maximum rigidity and impact resistance.

Applications & Uses

The standard substrate for outdoor flat panel signs, real estate signs, post-mounted directional signs, parking signs, facility signs and any application requiring a rigid, weather-resistant metal sign blank. Pre-cut to standard 4x8 and 4x10 sizes — cut down in-house to your required sign dimensions using a panel saw or shear.

Aluminum Sign Sheets vs ACM — Which to Use

Solid aluminum sign sheets are heavier and more rigid than ACM — preferred for post-mounted signs, road signs and applications where impact resistance matters. ACM (aluminum composite material) is lighter with a polyethylene core — preferred for flat panel signs, building signage and applications where weight is a factor.
