If you're specifying reflective vinyl for a sign, fleet vehicle, or wrap project, the right product isn't a style preference — it's about matching the application and, often, a regulatory or specification requirement. Here's how ORALITE's reflective vinyl lineup differs, and how to know which one your project actually calls for.

Engineer Grade — Standard Traffic & Informational Signage
Oracal 5500 is ORALITE's Engineer Grade reflective vinyl, ASTM D4956 Type I. It's a weatherproof, self-adhesive retroreflective film built for traffic control signs, parking and directional signage, and general informational graphics intended for long-term outdoor use. If your project is standard traffic or parking signage without a specialty application requirement, this is the correct product.
5600 — Small Graphics, Decals & Striping
Oracal 5600 is ORALITE's Fleet Engineer Grade reflective vinyl, ASTM D4956 Type I, Class 1 — the same classification as 5650RA. It's suited for smaller-format reflective work — decals, striping, and small graphics where full commercial vehicle or wrap-scale material isn't needed. Available in 15" (Punched), 24", 30", and 48" widths.
5600RA — Large Wraps, Rivets & Trailers
Oracal 5600RA meets ASTM D4956 Type I, Class 3. This is the practical choice for large-format work — full vehicle wraps, trailer graphics, and applications involving rivets or textured panels where the RapidAir adhesive's air-egress properties matter for a clean, bubble-free install.
5650RA — Fleet Engineer Grade, General Fleet Graphics & Lettering
Oracal 5650RA is Fleet Engineer Grade, ASTM D4956 Type I, Class 1. It's best suited for general fleet graphics and lettering applications. If your project's spec calls for 5650RA by name or by this classification, that's the product to order — it is not a higher-reflectivity or emergency-vehicle-specific tier, so don't substitute it based on an assumption that a higher SKU number means a higher grade.
A Note on "Punched" vs. RapidAir / Comply
These two terms get conflated often, and it's worth keeping them separate.
Punched refers to tractor-feed holes along the edge of the roll — a holdover from older tractor-drive vinyl plotters that fed material through the machine using those holes, similar to old dot-matrix printer paper. No current vinyl cutter uses true tractor-drive feed anymore; today's machines, including every Graphtec we sell, use friction feed instead. Punched rolls still exist because plenty of shops are running 30+ year old tractor-drive equipment that's never been replaced, and manufacturers continue producing punched stock to serve that installed base. 15" width rolls come punched by default. 30" rolls are available either punched or unpunched, depending on the vinyl series.
RapidAir is ORALITE/ORAFOL's brand name for their separate air-egress adhesive system — a network of micro-channels in the adhesive layer that let trapped air escape during application, enabling bubble-free installs over rivets and curved surfaces. 3M's equivalent technology is called Comply. This is a completely different feature from punched roll holes, even though both have informally been called "punched" at times, which is exactly where the confusion comes from.

A Note on "Diamond Grade"
"Diamond Grade" is a 3M brand name for their top-tier retroreflective sheeting — it does not apply to ORAFOL/ORALITE products. ORAFOL's equivalent top-tier product is the 9900 series, which ORAFOL markets as "Brilliant Grade." Central Sign Supplies does not currently carry the 9900/Brilliant Grade line. None of the products covered in this guide (5500, 5600, 5600RA, 5650RA) are Diamond Grade or Brilliant Grade.
