ORACAL 651: Permanent Adhesive Vinyl for Signs, Decals & Lettering
ORACAL 651 earned its place as the default sign vinyl by doing everything a working shop needs: it cuts and weeds cleanly, applies to flat and gently curved surfaces, and holds up outdoors for years without lifting or fading. Sign shops run it for storefront lettering, yard signs, equipment decals, window graphics, and wayfinding; small businesses and crafters use the same film for tumblers, mailbox numbers, and anything else that needs to stay put. If the job is outdoors, on a smooth surface, and meant to be permanent, 651 is the answer.
Colors in Stock
We stock ORACAL 651 in more than 80 colors, including the workhorses every shop reorders — gloss black and white, transparent, red, and the full metallic range (gold, silver, copper) — plus matte black for low-glare applications. Color availability is shown on each width's product page, and full rolls of any color can be ordered by phone at 1-800-999-3160 if you don't see the length you need online.
651 or 631? Permanent vs. Removable
This is the most common ORACAL question we get. ORACAL 651 is glossy with a permanent adhesive — built for outdoor signage and anything that should survive weather and washing. ORACAL 631 is matte with a removable adhesive — the right film for interior walls, rental spaces, and temporary promotions where clean removal matters. If it's going on a painted wall, use 631; if it's going outside, use 651.
When to Step Up to 751 or 951
651 is an intermediate film, and it covers most flat-surface work. For vehicle graphics, rivets, corrugations, or compound curves, step up to ORACAL 751 — a 2 mil high-performance cast film rated to 8 years that conforms where calendered vinyl won't. ORACAL 951 premium cast extends that to 10 years for fleet work and the most demanding installs. A good rule of thumb: flat and simple, 651; curved, riveted, or long-life fleet, cast.

ORACAL 651 — Frequently Asked Questions
Is ORACAL 651 permanent?
Yes. ORACAL 651 uses a permanent solvent-based acrylic adhesive. Once applied and set, it is not designed to be removed cleanly — for removable applications, use ORACAL 631 instead.
What is the difference between ORACAL 651 and 631?
651 is glossy with a permanent adhesive, made for outdoor and long-term use. 631 is matte with a removable adhesive, made for interior walls and temporary graphics. They cut and weed similarly; the adhesive and finish are the difference.
How long does ORACAL 651 last outdoors?
Up to 6 years for standard colors in vertical outdoor exposure. Metallic and transparent colors carry a shorter rating. Indoors, the practical lifespan is far longer.
Does ORACAL 651 work with Cricut and other desktop cutters?
Yes — the 12" rolls and 12"x24" sheets are sized for Cricut, Silhouette, and similar desktop machines, and the film cuts cleanly at standard settings. The same 651 film runs on production plotters at 24", 30", and 48" widths.
Can I use ORACAL 651 on a vehicle?
651 works for flat vehicle surfaces and short-to-medium-term graphics like door lettering and magnetics-style layouts. For rivets, corrugations, compound curves, or long-life fleet graphics, use a cast film such as ORACAL 751 or 951.
What widths of ORACAL 651 do you stock?
12" rolls, 12"x24" sheets, 15" punched rolls, and 24", 30", and 48" rolls — all in stock in Omaha with same-day shipping on most orders. Need a length or color you don't see online? Call 1-800-999-3160.
