Applications & Uses

Expanded PVC foam board is the standard substrate for indoor sign fabrication, retail displays, trade show exhibits, and dimensional letters. Its closed-cell foam structure makes it significantly lighter than aluminum or acrylic while maintaining the rigidity required for flat sign panels and mounted graphics. The matte white surface accepts vinyl graphics, screen printing, and most solvent, eco-solvent, and UV digital inks without priming or surface treatment.

Available thicknesses serve different applications: 3mm is the standard for flat sign panels and mounting boards, 6mm is used for dimensional elements and thicker panel applications, 12mm and 25mm are specified for structural components, thick dimensional letters, and display fabrication where rigidity and depth are required.

PVC foam board cuts cleanly on CNC routers and laser cutters, making it a preferred substrate for routed letters, shaped panels, and precision-cut display components. It does not absorb moisture, will not warp or delaminate in humid environments, and is chemically resistant to most cleaning agents — making it suitable for interior applications where occasional cleaning is required.

Where PVC Foam Board Fits in the Substrate Lineup

PVC foam board is the right choice for indoor sign fabrication where aluminum's weight or cost is not justified, and where the flexibility of corrugated plastic is insufficient. For outdoor long-term signage where weather resistance is the primary requirement, aluminum blanks or ACM panels are the better specification. For illuminated sign faces and applications requiring optical clarity, acrylic sheets are the appropriate substrate.
